SwimAtlanta Lifeguard Certification

THESE CLASSES ARE FOR THE LIFEGUARDS THAT HAVE BEEN HIRED TO WORK FOR SWIMATLANTA THIS YEAR.  YOU MUST SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW AND BE HIRED AS A LIFEGUARD FOR THIS SUMMER BEFORE YOU CAN REGISTER FOR A CLASS.

COST: $125 for March and April Classes, $175 for all other classes (SAPM Employee Pricing)

Prerequisites to Course Admission:


Participants must pass a prerequisite skills test before they can take the Lifeguard Course. The prerequisite test is administered on the first day of the course.  Participants who DO NOT pass the prerequisite skills test will be refunded the registration fee.
1. Swim 300 yards continuously using the following strokes in this order:

•      100 yards front crawl with rhythmic breathing.
•      100 yards breaststroke. The stroke must be demonstrating“using pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence”.
•     100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke.

2. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object. Note: This is a timed event, 1min. 40sec.

Course Completion Requirements:

• 1. Attendance & Participation in all class sessions.
• 2. Demonstrate competency in all required skills.
• 3. Demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios (water examination).
• 4. Correctly answer at least 80% of the questions in each of the four sections of the final written examination.

What do I bring to with me to the training course?


Swimsuit, towels, change of clothes, snacks, packed lunch, and pen or pencil.

Course Registration:
You are required to attend all the days listed in each class. If you are unable to attend any portion of a class, please choose another class.  Classes fill up quickly at this time of year, so it is important to sign up as soon as possible. You must be registered for the course prior to coming to the first class.  Sorry, we do no accept walk-ins.

Review Classes 2012

If your Lifeguard certification expires in 2012 you have two options.  First, take the full 3 day class for full price or take a one day review class and test in the same day.  The cost for a review class is $100.

CPR Certification 

Cost: $30 

THIS COURSE IS ONLY OFFERED TO LIFEGUARDS WHO ARE CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF SWIMATLANTA.

This course is for participants who are current on their Lifeguarding certification but need to renew the CPR/AED certification.  SwimAtlanta requires that all lifeguards must take the CPR/AED recertification course each year.  Employees may not begin working until ALL certifications are current.
